Goals: Marathons, Novels and Muscles

Any good writer and trainer has goals. Does anyone know about the personality type who loves goals? That would be me. These goals, however, are achievable for me, completely interlocked, and will be achieved. Want to get on board?

There is a lot of detail here. For the gist, just read the overall goals.

Overall goals

God willing, I will:

  1. Weigh 58 kilograms, then maintain a bodyweight of 58-60 kilograms for the next five years (not including pregnancy) in context of a healthy BMI.
  2. Be fit and muscular. I will have a resting heart rate of 58, and 24% body fat.
  3. Run a marathon.
  4. Learn techniques to better control my anger and anxiety.
  5. Maintain my current 1200-1300 calorie a day healthy eating habit for two years.
  6. Maintain a training habit of at least 6 days a week for the next two years.
  7. If I get pregnant, remain fit and strong through pregnancy: as a benchmark I will gain the healthy benchmark of 11-15 kilos.
  8. Write a novel.
  9. Write for Good Housekeeping magazine (UK), the Monthly Magazine, Smith Journal, the Guardian Australia, the Guardian UK, and the Australian.
  10. Read a chapter of the Bible daily, and pray for 15 minutes daily.
  11. Read one fiction/creative non fiction book per month.

 

12 Month Goals

  1. I will have maintained a bodyweight of 58-60 kilograms.
    1. Continue to plan weekly meals on Wednesdays
    2. Continue training 6 days a week
    3. Continue to consume 1200-1300 calories a day
    4. Revisit goal chart each week; look at goals daily

 

  1. I will be fit and muscular, with a resting heart rate of 58, 24% body fat, and will lift weights twice as heavy as when starting the 12wbt (?).
    1. Continue training 6 days a week
    2. Monitor training with Personal Trainer

  1. I will have run a full marathon. I will be training for a marathon the next year (or earlier).

  1. I will have made a notable improvement in my ability to handle my mood.
    1. Continue 15 meditation daily
    2. Continue 1 chapter Bible reading daily
    3. Continue 15 min prayer daily
    4. Continue to find and read mindfulness books (which I will make a list of now).

 

  1. I will have maintained a good attitude to training and healthy eating, for one year.
    1. Continue to plan food on Wednesdays
    2. Continue training 6 days
    3. Find a health community online
    4. Revisit goals weekly

 

  1. I will have remained fit and strong through pregnancy: as a benchmark I will only have gained 11-15 kilos (review with doctor).
    1. Look at the Michelle Bridges pregnancy plan and sign up
    2. Commit to Michelle Bridges pregnancy nutrition and training plan.
    3. Continue meditation.

 

  1. I will have written a novel.
    1. Write 2,000 words a week for 12 months (500 words weekdays and Sundays).
    2. Continue writing  habit daily, no matter what.

 

  1. I will have written for The Monthly Magazine, Smith Journal, and the Guardian Australia, the Australian, Good Housekeeping magazine (UK) and the Guardian UK.
    1. Create contacts for each publication – write dossier.
    2. Develop 3 quality pitches for each publication. Sent pitches monthly.
    3. Write stories – spend (minimum) 1 hour per workday
    4. Develop elevator pitches for each pitch. Test them out on a person.
    5. Be assertive, repetitive, but not rushed.

 

  1. I will have improved my own confidence about my relationship with God.
    1. 1 chapter Bible daily
    2. 15 minutes prayer in morning.
    3. Talk with family at least monthly

 

  1. I will be happy with my-self image in the writing community
    1. I will create an ‘only positive’ online comment policy.
    2. I will post to my blog consistently – every second day. I will create a backlog of blogs. I will do things to blog about.
    3. I will always have a story going, and ready to be pitched.
    4. I will only pitch to publications whom I feel good about pitching to.
    5. I will always read twice. I will always wait 24 hours before:
      1.                                                                i.      Replying to a problematic email
      2.                                                              ii.      Sending out a pitch that I have finished.

 

6 Month Goals

Health and Fitness

  1. Have run a 3/4 marathon, and another half marathon
    1. Continue training with Hal Higdon’s marathon IMMEDIATELY after finishing the 12wbt.
    2. Read about proper marathon nutrition (outside and in race) and create plan
    3. Continue 6 day training

 

  1. Have maintained a weight of 58-60 kilograms.
    1. Continue with 1200-1300
    2. Continue not to ‘reward’ with ‘treats’.

 

  1. I will have maintained a healthy eating and 6 days a week training schedule, for six months.
    1. Continue with 1200-1300 calorie a day plan
    2. Continue to plan food on Wednesdays.
    3. Continue to train 6 days a week, without excuse.
    4. Choose a training plan, and stick with it (eg, either Higdon, or another online schedule). Don’t swap.
    5. Reward: new clothes.

 

Work

  1. Have made $15,000 from writing work.
    1. I will create 3 pitches per magazine for 5 magazines per month. That equals 90 pitches in 6 months (45 in 3 months; 15 in one month).
    2. I will have followed up each of those pitches at least twice, with email and phonecall.

 

  1. Have written for Smith Journal, and The Guardian Australia
    1. Read Guardian guidelines. Read Journal guidelines again.
    2. Have created a relationship with Smith Journal contact by sending 4 pitches in the next three months. To be finished by 1 November 2013
    3. Come up with 3 quality pitches (& elevator pitches) for each, and call & email until successful.

 

  1. Have written 40,000 words of my novel.
    1. Write 2,000 words per month.
    2. Write 500 words per day (except Saturdays).

 

Style

  1. Have seen a style therapist, and bought new pieces
    1. Find and contact a style therapist I trust.
    2. Go through with the appointment, and make immediate notes.
    3. Create a list of rules for a life of shopping.

 

  1. Have thrown out all my old ‘have never worn,’ and, ‘will never wear again’ clothes.
    1. Get bags
    2. Create rules from a hoarder or clean out website
    3. Talk with butters about my desires and needs. Get his buy in, and his input about his expectations. Write a list of agreed terms.
    4. Chuck.
    5. Take straight away to Op Shop, and Tip. Get rid of all items the same day.

 

Faith

  1. Have more confidence in my relationship with God.
    1. Read chapter of Bible per day
    2. 15 minutes of prayer per day
    3. Will have talked with family at least 6 times.

 

 

3 Month Goals

Health and Fitness

  1. I will have run a half marathon
    1. Schedule a run right now.
    2. Continue with the 12wbt training plan
    3. Continue with the 12wbt nutrition
  2. I will have lost 11 kilos (to weigh 58 kilos).
    1. Continue with nutrition plan
    2. Weight or measure food first time I make it for correct calories.
  3. I will be fit and muscular, with a) a resting heart rate of 58, b) 24% body fat, and c) lifting double the weights that I started with.
    1. Continue with nutrition plan and monitor body fat as well as weight.
    2. Continue with the 12wbt training plan
    3. Monitor RHR with HRM and adjust plan for better results.
    4. Create HRM workouts on ismoothrun to help up HRM training.
    5. Increase weights at 1 and 2 months.
  4. I will have maintained a healthy nutrition and training habit.
    1. Continue with 12wbt nutrition plan.
    2. Continue with 12wbt training plan.
    3. Post to Facebook and Twitter after every session.

Work

  1. I will have written ¼ of a novel, or 20,000 words
    1. Write 500 words per weekday and Sunday
    2. Choose online word tracker, and post daily word count online
    3. Have a checker.
  2. I will have written for Smith Journal
    1. Send out 3 quality pitches per month
    2. Follow up each pitch with at least email and phonecall.
  3. I will be happy with my relationships in the writing world.
    1. I will not have ‘anxious emailed’
    2. I will have researched/reviewed style before every single pitch I make
    3. I will have sent considered pitches – never hasty pitches.
    4. I will have been commissioned by Smith (or another magazine).

Style

  1. I will fit into my thin slacks and thin blue shorts.
    1. Continue with 12wbt nutrition and training plans.

Faith and Wellness

  1. I will have improved my confidence in my relationship with God.
    1. 1 chapter Bible daily
    2. Super Saturday Session of Bible and faith reading: 2 hours reading.
    3. Chat with family at least 3 times in 3 months.
  2. Improvement in mood consistency
    1. I will have read a book on mindfulness.
    2. 15 min meditation daily
    3. ‘Walk away’ method in arguments.
    4. 15 minutes prayer in the morning

 

2 Month Fitness Goals

Health and Fitness

  1. Weight: lost 8 kilos (61 kilos)
  2. RHR: 61 bpm
  3. Body fat: lost 6% (27%)
  4. Weights: 1 2/3 of starting weight

Work

  1. Will have sent 6 pitches to Smith Journal
    1. Write 1 hour at least per weekday and Sunday
  2. Will have written 12,500 words of novel
    1. 500 words per weekday and Sunday
  3. Will not have anxious emailed
    1. Will have left 24 hours before responding

Style

  1. See health and fitness, above: will be losing weight and toning.

Faith and Wellness

  1. Will have read 1 chapter Bible per day
  2. Will have prayed 15 minutes per day.
  3. Will have meditated 15 minutes per day
  4. Will be three quarters through mindfulness book

1 Month Fitness Goals

Health and Fitness

  1. Will be able to run  14 kilometres
    1. Continue with 12wbt training program
    2. If 14k is not there in plan yet: run it anyway, in long run. Then return to plan.
  2. I will have lost 4 kilograms (1 per week), and weigh 65 kilograms.
    1. Continue with 12wbt nutrition plan
  3. I will have a) a RHR of 64bpm, b) body fat of 30% (lost 3%), and be lifting weights 1 1/3 of starting weight.
    1. Continue with training plan
    2. Continue with nutrition plan. If %fat isn’t changing, change snacks from fat to protein
    3. Monitor heart rate in workouts and push it.

Work

  1. I will have written 7,500 words of a novel.
    1. Find online word site, or similar accountability measure
    2. Write 500 words per day
  2. I will have made 3 pitches to Smith Journal
    1. Come up with 3 creative ideas, research them, write them
    2. Re-read Smith Journal style guide
    3. Create relationship with contact at Smith
    4. Pitch when considered

Style

  1. Continue with 12wbt nutrition and training plan; getting to the weigh I want deliberately, without laziness.

Faith and Wellness

  1. I will be more mindful, more able to deal with stress
    1. Buy a book about mindfulness
    2. Meditation 15 minutes per day
    3. Find online support site for mindfulness, choose an exercise, do it.
  2. I will be more confident in my relationship with God.
    1. Bible reading 1 chapter per day
    2. Praying 15 mins per day.
